Cinque Terre (Monterosso) from USA

We would like to begin our two weeks in Italy with a visit to Cinque Terre. Should we fly to Rome and take a train to our destination of Monterrso or is it quicker and less expensive to fly into Pisa or another city close to the Cinque Terre area? Our point of origin is the east coast of USA and we want to get to Monterosso as quickly and inexpensively as possible. Thank you for any suggestions.

It would definitely be quicker to fly into either Pisa (1 hour to Monterosso) or Milan (3 hours to Monterosso) than into Rome (over 4 hours to Monterosso). You'll need to add the time it takes to get from the airport to the central train station in each city.

There is a train station at the Pisa airport. Depending upon your departure time and the type of trains you take from there to Monterosso, the fare will be either 5.80 EUR, 11.10 EUR, or 15.00 EUR.

You'll have to determine for yourself the best fare for flying from home to one of those cities.

Another option for you would be Genoa (GOA). Genoa & Pisa (PSA) are the two airports closest to CT. I also like Milan (MXP) because, of the three, only Milan offers the possibility of non-stop flights from the US.
