I am going to the C.T. in may with my 65-year old dad and brother. We need a cheaper place to stay but I am trying to find a place where we don't have to climb 1000 steps for my dad's sake? We don't want to be in the high-traffic place but my only experience has been in Vernazza. Any suggestions from experience for 3 grown men to stay 2 nights?

Look up the Marina Piccola in Manarola. It's right on the waterfront. If that's too expensive, clarify your price range.
