Cinque Terre Lodging

Hi! I browsed the search feature, and last time it was asked was several years ago. Of the villages / towns you have visited along the Cinque Terre, what was your favorite for lodging? We're a middle age hiking family, so hills are fine. :-) So hard to know which town to choose for lodging base. Which one did you like the best & why? MANY thanks for helping us plan our once in a life time trip :-) Sincere thanks!

Monterosso.
Because it's the largest of the 5 and has the most visitor services. Because of the size, it can accommodate crowds better than the other 4. 2nd would be Corniglia because it's the smallest, cute as all get out, and the least easy to get to so it'll be peaceful at night, although Monterosso was quiet in the early mornings and late at night too. If looking to hike the Monterosso>Vernazza section of the "Blue trail", that section is usually open during high season. The section of "Blue" from Vernazza to Corniglia is mostly likely to be open as well, although weather and unexpected damage can close any trail at any time.

The sections of the "Blue" between Corniglia> Manarola> Riomaggiore will be closed this year but there are many are other trails higher into the hills.

Levanto is lovely. I prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle but only 5 minutes away by train. Also, Levanto has a great trail to Monterosso and a nice beach.

We stayed in Monterosso as it offered more services. We stayed at Hotel Porto Roca which was up on a bluff with full sea views. And it had a private beach and a wonderful dining room.
