Cinque Terre limits tourists

Anyone know about Italy limiting Cinque Terre visitors to 1.5 million this year??
And what can those of us who want to visit this summer do to get on the list???
Perhaps Rick Steves' staff has an answer.

There are other posts about this, search the forum please.
In summary: sounds like nothing is set in stone yet and it something they are still exploring doing this summer so no one can answer anything yet.
Many of us are interested in knowing when more is known so will be talked about on the forum I am certain.

Roberto I wouldn't call it an hoax, but a proposal. Something they are discussing about.
To me it seems clear that cruise passengers are the "real target", so to speak. No local would miss them.

No non-cruiser tourist would miss them either.

Hi I would love to know the answer to John's question. We have already booked a hotel there for June. There is nothing on the Cinque Terre National Park website about it either. Rick Steves's team any advice? thanks, Joanna

What about reading previous posts?

It's just a proposal and, even if it wasn't, of course they have no way to keep out tourists that have already booked.
There is no list, hence there is no way to get on the list.

We are in Manarola for several days towards the end of March, before heading down to Rome. Will see what I can find out from our host and report back.

John,

Not to worry. Nothing has been decided yet and there probably won't be any significant changes anytime soon. Just carry on with your visit to the Cinque Terre as planned.

It's a b.s. proposal, like similar ones you hear or read about Venice every other week.

You can limit cars entering an area (like the ZTL does), you can limit the number of people entering a museum, you can limit the number of people entering a theme park or a national park.

But there is no practical way you can stop people from going to a city or town or area by public transportation, unless you are willing to negatively impact the local residents. Are they going to have the police stopping people from getting off the train at the Cinque Terre?

They are just trying to limit the number of cruise ships that can dock at certain times. Also the tour buses. They don't want everyone arriving at the same time. When they all arrive at once, they flood the trains and towns, mostly Vernazza. Even if they arrive at different times, the number of people arriving is too much. That is what is causing the problem.

Regular tourists who come for their 1, 2, 3 nights, whatever, stay are very welcome. Because they stay! They get to know CT! And appreciate it :)
