I've been in October and the weather was very comfortable. It was a little hot on the trail, we wished we had carried some water.

Having said that, part of the trail was washed out and closed due to heavy rains the week before we arrived. So I suppose it's possible to show up during the heavy rains too.

Hi Matthew, I can only speak from two days experience. Oct 16 & 17 and the weather was sunny and very warm, especially hiking the trails. Previous to our arrival in CT we had been to Amalfi Coast and had rain, thunder and lightning followed by warm sunshine. This is the transition season for weather so anything is possible. Although we had a reservation in Vernazza, we did see a few locals asking people leaving the train station if they needed a room so you might want to wait until you in Italy to decide (based on the weather) to go to CT without a reservation. Hope this helps. Sherry

For wild guessing about weather that far out, individual observations are almost worse than nothing, especially when they don't exactly match your dates, which in this case include November.

You'd ideally want a data service that would give you, oh say, about the last 12 years of actual weather on your exact dates.

Well, guess what? we've got that, here it is

best info on weather that far out is here

that takes you to our new FAQ, scroll down and you'll see Weather, click that,

it will take you to the weather site, then input your exact dates, and for location input LaSpezia

I would go to CT end of Oct or November. I haven't but know people who have and they were sorry: the CT experience is highly weather dependent, unlike other destinations, if the weather is typical late Oct or Nov weather, there isn't much to do.

thanks for the insight...i guess i really did not need to ask about the weather...more interested in that the area is still "open" so to speak...i am not a hot weather/laze on the water kind of guy...i'd rather it be more fall like/cooler but if it is mild one day and windy/rainy the next that is fine...i am more the be outside/hike/explore type so sun/clouds/rain/wind is something you can't control so i don't worry about it...i guess that time of year on the coast each day could be different...

Given what you said in your most recent post, November isn't the time you want to go, the weather gods & odds will be against you.

Again, in Rome if it rains and is windy, there's plenty to do. Given what you want to do in the CT, if you go in November and have typical weather, there won't be much for you to do.

And so, I suggest you invest the 5 minutes in looking at the data/evidence/facts for your time frame, and then (as Clint once said) ask yourself: How lucky do I feel?

Lucky enough to bet that part of your trip on iffy weather? It's your trip and money, you get to decide.(hint: the earlier you go in the fall, the more likely you'll be able to do what you're going all that way to do.)
