Cinque Terre in October

This will be my first trip to Italy, I'll be there for 14 days. I'll be visiting Vernazza on Oct 17 for 3 nights. Does it rain during that time? Is it worth it to go there during that time? Or should I visit another city instead? I'm afraid that the rain might make the trails difficult to hike or that the trail might be closed off. The other cities that I will be visiting are Rome, Siena, Florence and Venice.

"I'll be visiting Vernazza on Oct 17 for 3 nights. Does it rain during that time?"

I'll be surprised if anyone here claims to be able to accurately answer that question (no one knows what the weather is going to be more than about 10 days out).

But what we can do for you (and this is the way we answer all weather questions here) is to give you the best historical weather data site on the internet

here it is

When you get to the site, input La Spezia (the closest location to the CT for which the site has data) and input a time span of, say, 5 days on either side of October 17,

and hit Enter, and you'll get, neatly summarized for you, the last 10 to 15 years of actual weather for that date at La Spezia, which is a few miles south of the CT but is as close as we can get.

My husband and I are traveling to the CT around that same time, and I was wondering if it would be worth the trip to! Hopefully someone can offer and opinion on this topic to benefit both of us!!

To Holly and Nicole: What the weather is going to be in 2 months is a judgment call that you should make for yourselves, after taking the 3 minutes to go to the link provided above and look at the facts/data.

That's what I'd do if it were my trip.

Whatever you do, don't base your trip plans on someone here making a WAG about what the weather might do this October. With the link provided above, there's data at your fingertips. It's still anybody's guess, but at least you'll have a few facts on your side.

Best wishes for good luck on the weather, wherever you end up going.

We were there early Oct. last year for 4 days. We had two beautiful days, one full day of down-pouring rain, and one day of morning rain and a cloudy-overcast day. On the rainy day we decided to go do our laundry and we stayed inside and read books. It was still beautiful (we had a view) and it was a nice time out. Only real negative thing for us was that most restaurants don't have much indoor seating so eating was problem. We had to find food and bring it back to our room to eat out of the rain. But, it was an experience and still worth it even if the weather isn't perfect.

"Thanks for the great web-site on weather! One of the best I have seen!"

BJ: Thanks for taking the time to let us know that you find this weather website

http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner/index.asp

helpful in planning your Europe trips!

I've been providing the link to it for the last year, in answer to those who ask "What's the weather going to be in _____ in July?" or "What kind of weather should I expect in May in ______."

Before this website was discovered, people who asked weather questions would sometimes be flamed,or the best they'd get would be one or two people posting and saying "When we were in ____ last year, the weather was blah blah blah." When you think about it, one or two telling you what the weather was in a previous year, even if it's the same month (and often it wasn't)--well, that just isn't a very accurate method of answering people's weather questions, based on almost no data and really not much better than a wild guess.

So some of us thought it was a break-through when we found this weather site--because unlike others it allows you to input the location and a time span (up to 2 weeks), then gives you the last 10 to 15 years of weather in that time span, neatly summarized.

Weather questions are one of the most FAQ's we get here, which makes it especially helpful to us in giving us feedback that people are finding the website useful in planning trips.
