I have been to Cinque Terre once before back in October 2008. The towns were basically empty and we learned that is was off season. So it was hard to find shops and restaurants open. However, when I search online for this information, I don't find anything about it. Anyone been there in October recently? Is it still lively?

Our tour was in Monterosso at the end of October 2015. Restaurants and shops were open but it wasn't crowded which was nice.

Mid-October should still be nice, assuming the weather is favourable. It will probably be quieter then, with less activity from the cruise ship hordes. Some of the tourist-related businesses start to shut down for the season about the end of October and reopen on 1 April.

Was last in the CT in mid-Oct. 2014 and there was still plenty of people. I was expecting way less people than our previous 3 visits which were in the months of either June or July. Love the evenings after day trippers are gone.
