Cinque Terre in March/April?

Setting up our next trip. We usually have to go in Feb, but this year we can go a bit later and think we might finally get to the CT.

How's the Cinque Terra in late March/early April?

What's the weather like?
How full of tourists is it?
How many shops/restaurants/hotels, etc are open vs. closed for the season?
Anything else we should know about going to Cinque Terra at that time of year?

Thanks very much,

Jeffrey Korst

It sounds like an ideal time to be in the CT. By mid-April they start gearing up for the holiday period at the end of April and for the summer crowds. I would expect most things to be open, hotels/B&Bs more available, temperatures mild, and fewer crowds. The season for closures is in the Dec-Jan-Feb time frame. Even then, I think lots of businesses would be open (catching their breath from the crowds of summer).

March can be beautiful. April is. Residents have begun to tend their square meter gardens in March. For the best sunset views, stay in Riomaggiore at the Hotel Villa Argentina. Reasonably priced, with breakfast. Each room has a balcony.

While you might encounter more Italian high school students on day excursions, early April is far less crowded then you would find in May. Everything is open for business. Have a great trip!

Been there in March. It was the only time on my trip that I could comfortably take off my light coat. The afternoon sun is warm but the wind can still be chilly. You'll need to dress like you would in San Francisco in November.
