Cinque Terre in March, amazing

We spent three nights in Vernazza in the middle of March, just before the trails were pay to use, amazing 2 full days there. what a time to go!

Pro's - weather was nice (for a cold climate Canadian), just our light jackets were sufficient for everything, no real crowds to speak of, amazing scenery (without crowds), accomodation was reasonably priced for the area and plenty of choice, trains were not super busy

Cons - some places/restaurants were not open yet, some construction here and there getting ready for the busy season

Judging from the pics of crazy crowds we've seen there we loved going there at this time of year, the few cons were nothing compared to the amazing positives of being there at a less busy time, we'd do that again in a heartbeat!

Great to hear!! I’m thinking about Cinque Terre and Venice for March 2025.

Were the trains pretty frequent between the other villages?

Where did you stay?

Good to know that that hasn't changed (so far). We were there in March a few years ago and had pretty much the same experience. Our daughter OTOH was there in July a couple of years ago and her photos of the crowds were the stuff of nightmares. Yes, she knew what she was getting into, but she's a teacher, so...

The trains were not frequent, but nor did they need to be with the lack of crowds. We stayed at La Mala, on booking.com. Quite the climb to the place but amazing views of the water on a lovely private deck. The owner met us at the train station to guide us up or else I'm not sure if we would have found it without asking for help from someone. Nice place, definitely would stay again.

Venice was lovely too, 3 nights there. Not terribly busy, right after the festival. Great time of year to go.

Thanks for sharing!

I’ve only been to CT once on a day trip in the peak of summer 2015 and although I loved it, I was overwhelmed by trying to use the train between towns, in particular the mob of people pushing to get on; that alone was enough to likely keep me away in the summer again. Hubby wants to do an off season trip so this will go on the contenders list!
