Cinque Terre in March

We have been to Cinque Terre in the summer and we really enjoyed it. We now have plans to take our grandchildren, ages 12 & 8, to Italy for their Spring Break next year, which is in early March. They love the outdoors and we have taken them hiking many times. I think they would enjoy the hike from Montorosso to Vernazza. Has anyone hiked the trails in early March? What is the area like during that time of year? Is it worth going in early March? Thanks

Hi Jack -
Ooof, without even having done it early March, I'd say it's a crapshoot whether you can count on that particular trail to even be open that time of year. I remember it being closed for weather and/or repairs this past March, and mentioned that in a 3/4/2023 post in this thread:

Mike also had posted that it had been closed since December but reopened in Mid March.

They routinely close trails if weather (mostly rain) makes them unsafe, and early March can be wet, windy and chilly. If that trail is the ONLY reason you would go, I'd personally skip it lest Mom Nature throw a wrench in the plan. Would be sad to have to disappoint those grandchildren?

Early March is early for hiking. It’s generally rainy and/or on the cold side, and they close the trails in they are muddy. If I were you I would stay in a city not too far (for example Lucca) and visit the Cinque Terre from there if weather permits). From Lucca you can travel to Monterosso in a couple of hours, from Pisa even less.
