I will be in Tuscany in August and would like to explore Cinque Terre. Has anyone been there in August? My concern is that it will be too crowded as August is holiday for most Europeans.
Thank you

Michele,
I've never been there in August as I prefer to travel in the "shoulder seasons". However, I suspect it will be very busy. If you really want to see that area, you might give it a try anyway.
Cheers!
I would choose somewhere else in August. The towns are very small with narrow, crooked streets. Unless you spend your time hiking in the hills off the beaten track, if there is such a thing, I wouldn't go to CT in Aug. It is too beautiful a place to try to see thru the crowds.
I have heard the higher up tracks are relatively quiet. You may have to avoid the main hiking tracks if you don't want crowds. I've also heard September is busier than August in terms of tourists and hikers. But that may just be rumours. (We are planning to go in September 09.)
I was there in August, and it was quite crowded on the beaches and the trains on the weekends, but the towns did not at all feel crowded. On the weekdays it was not too busy at all, even on the beaches.
On the weekend, all the Italians were on the beaches, but very few people were hiking the trails - all of them tourists.
