Cinque Terre hotels: La Mala vs. Hotel Pasquale

I'm planning to spend 5 nights in the Cinque Terre & need help deciding between La Mala in Vernazza & Hotel Pasquale in Monterosso. La Mala is 20 euros/night more than Hotel Pasquale but Hotel Pasquale can only accommodate me for 4 of the 5 nights. If you've been to either or both hotels, can you please give me your input? I'm a bit concerned about all the stairs leading up to La Mala whereas Hotel Pasquale has an elevator. Thanks for your input.

Sheron, I'm not familiar with La Mala, but Hotel Pasquale is a reliable Hotel. Some of the comments on Trip Advisor indicate that train noise can be a problem, but I recently spoke with some people that stayed there and they were pleased with the facilities. Hotel Pasquale has a "sister" property just up the hill, Hotel Villa Steno. It's an incredible Hotel and the owners are wonderful, but it is a bit of a climb to get there. I used a Taxi from the station to the Hotel when I first arrived, and found that the stairs or road weren't too much of an effort when I didn't have luggage to haul. Happy travels!

Sheron: Just returned from the CT last week and stayed in Monterosso at Hotel La Colonnina. Unless your heart is set on staying in the "new" part of Monterosso - I'd highly recommend this hotel which is in the "old" part of town and there are no stairs to it. The staff was among the best we experienced out of our 2.5 week trip, room was clean, simple and modern. Breakfast room was lovely, large, open and bright with an excellent spread. And there is a nice rooftop deck where you can sit out with a view of the ocean and hillside and have a drink. The rates were reasonable and a good value and they have about 21 rooms. Hope this helps.

I stayed at Hotel Pasquale. Only time I was aware of the train going by was if I was looking out the window and saw it.
