We're staying at Hotel Il Bargellino in Florence. The reviews are good and it looks like a cute place, good price.

We stayed at Hotel Punta Mesco in Monterosso's new town. We stayed there largely in part to RS rec's in the book not being available for the holiday weekend we were there. It also uses online reservations It ended up being a nice place. The room was smallish and the bed was nothing special, but the rates were fair and the hosts were very helpful. It was in the "new" half of town, which is closest to the train and most of the beaches.
