Cinque Terre Hotel/B&B

We (party of 3 - husband, wife & teenage son) are traveling to Europe this coming Sept. 1-24th, spending three nights in Cinque Terre 10th-12th. We have spent countless time on the internet trying to find a place to stay, finding that most places are already booked. Is anybody familiar with Hotel Abetaia in Levanto? It had great reviews, but is also noted as being 'out of the way'. We won't have a car, so are somewhat concerned that this could potentially be a problem. If anybody has any other recommendations (price range 150-200 euros for a triple), we would greatly appreciate it.

Kari, Are you only using the internet to find accommodations, or do you have a copy of the Italy 2013 Guidebook? There are lots of good, reliable lodgings in all of the five towns listed in the Guidebook. You could also try the accommodations on these two websites: > www.rebuildmonterosso.com/p/visitors-information.html > savevernazza.com/visiting-vernazza/ Some specific properties you could look at in Monterosso are Hotel Villa Steno, Hotel Pasquale, Villa Adriana or Hotel Porto Roca. I'm not familiar with the hotel you listed in Levanto, so can't offer any comments. You might also try www.primaverahotel.com there. If you can't find anything in the C.T. towns, Levanto is a reasonable alternative as it's also a beautiful seaside town and only about 5 minutes by train from Monterosso. One other place you could try is www.5terre-marmar.com/home.asp in Riomaggiore. The typically provide just the room, so you'd be on your own for breakfast (AFAIK). Try to get something booked SOON, as that's typically a busy time in the C.T. I normally start booking in February or March for travel in September. At this late stage, you may have to take what you can find and increase your budget accordingly. Good luck and hope you find something!

I used arbaspaa.com for our 2 trips...they also arrange wine tasting, tours by plane and boat, have a store in Vernazza that sells hiking gear...but they tend more to B&B type places...

I also used arbaspaa to book a 2 rm apt. for September. Very reasonable. You could also try flip-key. Since its so close to your travel dates there may not be a lot from which to choose but worth a try. Also have a look at vrbo. Buona fortuna!

Kari, Levanto is a bit removed from the main towns of CT. I would try Vernere.com. I found it to be a great site for booking B & B etc. Also try Rick's recommendations. Lorie

we just got back from Italy, including 2 days in CT. I strongly recommend Albergo Marina in Monterosso. Besides a great breakfast on the rooftop deck with omelettes, crepes, eggs, etc., they have a complimentary luncheon buffet every day from 2-5, with fruit, vegetables, meats and best of all, delicious pasta made for you on the spot. Great location too.
