Cinque Terre Help

Hi there,

My wife and I will be staying in Cinque Terre this August for a couple nights and was curious as to the best village/hotel to stay at? Monterosso seems to be the most happening village with a beach, more restaurants and shops which sounds like may be the best option for us. If so, any recommendations for where to stay? This is part of our first time trip to Italy. We have 10 nights total and are still deciding between 3 or 4 places, but CT is definitely a place we want to go.

Thanks in advance for any help!

There is no "best village" to stay at. There may be a best option for you based on your travel style and the type of lodging you're interested in. Each village has characteristics that may make it more appealing for different travelers to consider it as a base.

Here's a brief overview of each of the villages. You can also get Rick's take here. Read about them and then decide which one suits you.

Stephen,

Each of us here has our own "favourite" among the Cinque Terre towns, and Monterosso is absolutely my favourite for some of the reasons you mentioned. The fact that it has the largest number of hotels and other accommodations will be important in August, as it's going to be very busy then! I'd recommend securing a reservations SOON! If you can't find anything in Monterosso, you could also look at Levanto, as it's only four minutes by train from Monterosso.

In terms of which hotels to stay at in Monterosso, my absolute favourite is Hotel Villa Steno, with Hotel Pasquale a close second. You could also try Hotel Villa Adriana, Hotel La Spiaggia or Hotel Porto Roca, but may have to settle on something a bit higher in the price range. You could also try this list, although I don't know when it was last updated......

Note that Monterosso has an "old town" and a "new town", but it doesn't matter which area the accommodations are as it's an easy walk between them. Be sure to have a fine hot meal on the outdoor patio at Cantina di Miky which is on the main street, not far from the train station.

I vote for hotel Pasquale in monterosso. Lovely family run this hotel and it is located in the old part of town. All the towns are beautiful and have nice restaurants and shops and fabulous scenery and views. If you are planning to go to the beach, the main one is In Monterosso
