Hi. I have a 15-day consecutive Global pass, can I use it for the regional train that goes from La Spezia to the towns of Cinque Terre? Is it better coming from La Spezia or from Genoa?
Jon, normally you'll be arriving in La Spezia from another city by rail, so you'll be using a day on your Rail Pass. Therefore you can just continue on the local train (no reservations are required for the smaller local train).
Whether it's better to travel from Genova or La Spezia depends to some extent on where you're coming from and which town you're staying in. The routing of the trains will to some extent make that decision for you. For example, if you're travelling from Switzerland, you'll probably be routed via Genova. If you're coming from Rome, you'll likely travel via La Spezia.
Cheers!
Thanks Ken. I'll be staying at La Spezia because it's closer and will be using my Global pass to go to Cinque Terre. I'll just pay to hike the trails.
