Cinque Terre for 1 to 2 days. We have a car. Need simplest park/hike to get the most of the area

Looks like Corniglia for example is not accessible by car. We are hoping to find the best area to park and hike and either hike back or take a ferry to get to car again.

The two easiest options for parking are probably....

  • Monterosso - has car parks in both the new town (on the beach) or in the parkade at the top of the old town. Note that you can NOT drive into the town itself, as there's a ZTL area and you'll probably get slapped with a hefty fine.
  • La Spezia - there's a large car park close to the rail station. I can't remember the exact location, but I'm sure one of the others can provide that information.

The La Spezia train station parking is under the station with an entrance on Via Fiume. Another La Spezia option is to park in the lots at Porto Mirabello which is a short walk across a pedestrian bridge to the ferry docks. If you departed on the ferry and returned by train or vice-versa, it's about a 15-20 minute walk back to your car. A third La Spezia option is to park in the free lot at Piazza d'Armi which is about a 15-20 minute walk from both the train and the ferry.

I would park at Monterosso al Mare and hike to Vernazza. It’s pretty steep but a great hike. We tried to hike the trail all the way between the 5 towns but one section was closed. It was a highlight of our trip. Amazing views and fantastic picture opportunities
