Cinque Terre

Is the "Walk of Love" between Riggiomore & Manarola reopened...we are travelling there this May?

The Via dell'Amore remains closed as do the other 3 more popular trail segments according to the official word from the Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre. Earlier, I saw the segment between Corniglia and Vernazza open but now latest park information shows that it is closed. I see no predictions for May.

dee,

As Larry mentioned, the Via dell'Amore is currently closed, as are the other No. 2 trails. There's no way to predict at this time when any of them will re-open, or whether any will be open in May. The best suggestion I can make is to keep checking the Official Park website as it seems to be updated on a regular basis.

Some background information - the Via dell'Amore was closed all of last year due to a severe rock slide that occurred about 24 Sept. 2012, which seriously injured four Australian tourists. It is rumoured to be re-opening in 2014, but no specific date has been mentioned. The other trails were open and closed at various times last year according to weather and slide conditions, although the trail from Manarola to Corniglia was mostly closed.

Happy travels!

Wow - I hadn't realized that - I have photos on Sept 23, 2012 when we were on the Via Dell Amour! I guess being on holiday (and we left for France on the 24th) - we missed that...

Nicole,

I was also in the area at about that time, but had already moved to Switzerland when the slides occurred. You can have a look at a few pictures on THIS website.

I find it somewhat ironic that the Via dell' Amore was affected this time, as it's probably the safest of all the No. 2 trails.

Are Cinque Terre trails usually closed in winter months...seems most
were open last year?

As I recall, two of the four trails were open last year but they are shown to be closed now. These were the trails from Monterosso to Vernazza and from Vernazza to Corniglia. If I am correct, the remaining two trails have been closed since the mudslides.
