Cinque Terre Day trip from Florence

Hello, I had planned to do a day trip from Florence to Cinque Terre on Wed October 23rd of 2024 this month
I have a hotel room in Florence but thought just perhaps book an inexpensive room in cinque terre for the night ..preferably Vernazza.

My question is with the weather being up in the air should I refrain from booking one night unless it's refundable and can cancel within 24/48 hours?
I'm so torn but thought how nice to spend the night there and get a real feel for the place going to sleep there and waking up...I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW it's just one night but I'm going to be in Florence for 6 nights and I definitely want to see cinque terre

so if please do not comment if you want to try and convince me to not do a day trip :)
Please those who have been there in October in this situation..your thoughts :) I appreciate it thank you!

It makes perfect sense to play it by ear with the weather, and staying overnight is much preferable than a long day trip. I would find something with a reasonable cancellation policy and go for it. But any village will be nice--they are just minutes apart by train.

excuse the spelling thank you!! :)
have a room in riomaggiore but I was thinking Vernazza because of the boats...
but then again it gets dark pretty early...
Then again I saw the Path of Love starts there which is perfect...
what do you think? I'm assuming you have been to each town.
thank you

We arrived in Monterosso on 11/4/23 - it was raining lightly as we got off the train, and became a torrential rainstorm by evening - the sea was so unsettled for the next two days that no boats could get into the water.

Just using this as an example of how changeable the weather can be late in the season.

It seems like something you really want to do - so go.
