On searching the web there appears to be doubts and conflicting opinions as to whether ALL the walking tracks are open for the coming season. We plan to travel from New Zealand Mid May 2013 and need accurate clarification before booking air fares. Any recent experiences of January 2013 appreciated with thanks.

Hi Ann. There is an official national park web site showing status of all trails. It shows all four trails along the coast (trails #2) as closed; most of the other / inland trails are open. http://www.parconazionale5terre.it/sentieri_parco.asp?id_lingue=2 Enjoy your trip!

Ann, At this point, there's no way to predict which of the trails will be open in mid-May, but I believe the plan is to open them again at the start of tourist season (April 1st?). The trail from Manarola to Corniglia was closed for most/all of last season, so it's possible that may remain closed. I'd suggest checking the website provided in the previous reply from time-to-time, prior to your trip. It's important to note that there's an extensive network of other trails in the Cinque Terre, in addition to the Sentiero Azzurro trails that are popular with tourists. Many of the others are still open, so some hiking would still be possible. Happy travels!
