Cinque Terre Card

I will be in Cinque Terre for 4 days. On one of the days we will be hiking from Manarola to Monterosso. Another day we will be hiking from Manarola to Riomaggiore and the rest of the days we will be taking the train. I am thinking we need to buy a Cinque Terre Tren card for 1 day, we are staying in Manarola so I believe I can get passes to hike from Manarola to Riomaggiore and the other days just buy train tickets on the Trenitalia app. Does this make sense? Thank you for any thoughts or insights!

You'll need a card of some sort for each day that you intend to hike the low/blue route. The via dell'amore, which is the low route, between Manarola and Riomaggiore requires a separate booking, and it's one way from Riomaggiore to Manarola. You should price out the trains you want to take and compare that to the additional cost of a Tren card compared to a Trekking card.

The high route is free, but the trekking card gives you free rides on the shuttles between the villages and the high trail.

I can't find a train-only card. To avoid the queues at the stations, you can buy tickets on the app. The price for an individual ticket varies based on the day, the same way the Tren card does.
