Cinque Terre: Best way to see with Children

I am taking a road trip in Italy. I'll drive up early from Pisa, and should get to the Cinque Terre area around 10:00. I wish to walk the trails a bit, have lunch, then explore a bit more and stay overnight. Is it better for me to stay in one of the towns, or near by and then take a train to Cinque Terre. If you recommend staying in Cinque Terre, which one is easiest to drive to? My wife + I are traveling with 8 & 11 year old children, who are both good walkers. But I want to have a "kid-friendly" day. My thanks -- Mike

Stay on a major trail, they are easy to walk with great views. Monterosso is a neat town to stay in. It is one of the larger towns and enough to keep kids interest. If can't find a place in Cinque Terre than nearby Levanto is good. It has a beach, many resturants and is just one train stop away.

Parking may well be a challenge - if so you can park in La Spezia and take the train in. The roads are very windy and parking is like finding hens' teeth.
