Cinque Terre beaches - lockers? bag storage?

I'll be hiking among the villages and may want to stop for a swim or to go snorkeling and I'm wondering if there is a safe place to stash my bag (which may contain my ID, cards, and Euro). Is there bag storage or lockers set up near the beaches?

As the Cinque Terre is not as bustling as other beach parts on this coast I only saw the lockers and change/showerareas further down in St Marguerita and certainly at Positano such a great idea when I was in the Cinque Terre have been twice going again In Sept I rented a small room so stashing my stuff wasnt an issue everyone is very friendly a kindly person may mind your stuff but passport an issue are you basing yourself somewhere? sally

Hi Bobbi,

We ran into this same problem in the Cinque Terre, and the afternoon ended with a very wet passport. =)

Unfortunately, I don't know of any lockers ON the beaches. But Rick reports in this article that the Riomaggiore train station now has lockers, and that's only a short walk from the town's pebbly beach.

Enjoy Italy!

Thanks for the tips. Since I'll be based in Vernazza I was wondering how I might stash my stuff is I snorkeled or swam in another town. I did read about the lockers at the train station so that may come in handy.

Bobbi, consider just taking a copy of 1st page of passport, and 1 credit card and some euros and getting one of those waterproof canisters you can wear around your neck. I hardly ever carry my passport (even tho some say you should) and I've lived in Europe (Germany and Italy) for almost 8 years now.

Hey. Great idea on the waterproof canisters. Those are on sale right now at REI (their big anniversary sale).
