I'm flying from London to Pisa, then taking the train to visit the Cinque Terre. I've been there twice before, and have stayed in Riomaggiore and Vernazza. Either town would be fine with me, but I am having issues with checking in to a room after 5pm, when all the room rental offices seem to close. As of yet I don't have a firm reservation (arriving May 19th) but have several emails from proprietors that insist I arrive before 5pm. We land in Pisa at 2:35, then have maybe two hours on the train with connections, so I am not sure if it's realistic to arrive by 5pm. Any thoughts?
Since you will arrive on a Monday, I suspect that you should be able to get a room without a lot of hassle. Go into one of the bars and ask around.
It's only 90 minutes by train from Pisa but I'm betting that you can't get to the main Pisa train station before 3:30pm. I'm betting close to 4:00pm. Since you've been there before, you know that there are occasionally people at the station soliciting rooms for rent. Of course, everybody in the towns has a friend or relative that knows somebody that has a private room. I'm betting that you do alright but, there is always the Hotel Continental (1 block from the train station) or Hotel Astoria (5 blocks from the train station) in La Spezia. We've stayed at the Hotel Astoria and it was quite nice in their newer upgraded section. However, La Spezia is nothing special.
We can't find anything in June for CT. Had not even thought about late arrival. Have you found anything? Can you report back where you ended up and how it was? thx
Two years ago, we arrived late with no room in mid July. Had no problem, asking around town. Check with the shop keepers in Venazza.
