Cinque Terre and Siena?

Hi everyone,
I’m starting to plan a summer visit to Italy with my husband and I’d love some input. We’re flying in/out of Italy from London and will have 5 night/6 days in Italy.
Cinque Terre is high on our lists of places to go and we’re thinking of adding Siena. Logistically would this work with transit and airports?

We mainly just want to to take in the scenery and have good food and wine. We don’t mind skipping the big cities, but also don’t want to spend all our time feeling like we’re running around.
Any input is appreciated! Thanks

Pisa is the best airport for you to fly into,
From Pisa you can take the train to one of the towns along the Cinque Terre ( with a change in La Spezia),
Then you can take a train from Cinque Terre to Florence and then take the bus to Siena, This is a kind of a long ride

To get to the Cinque Terre, most would take a train to La Spezia. Then they'd take a slow local train into one of the Cinque Terre towns. Siena is about an hour bus ride out of Florence, and they drop you off in the city center. The buses pickup across the street from the Florence train station.

I didn't much like Siena. The narrow stone streets make sound reverberate. If you stay there, get a room that doesn't overlook the street.

I could spend a month in Cinque Terra. Get a room at the Albergo Sonriso in Vernazza. Eat dinner at the Aristide Ristorante in Manarola--hands down the best fish dinner I've ever had anywhere ever.

My favorite big city is Florence. I love Venice but it's soooooo crowded (I feel like I should apologize to the Venitians). Rome is unbeatable if you like history. Florence has it all (and the best looking police force in Europe--both guys and gals).

Zig,

If you're planning to visit the Cinque Terre during the summer, you'd better get a hotel booking soon! I'd suggest looking at accommodations in Monterosso first, as it's the largest of the five towns and has the greatest number of hotels and other lodgings.

Six nights is not a long time, so you might consider splitting the time between Siena and the Cinque Terre. You can get about easily by train. If you haven't travelled by train in Italy before, there are some potentially expensive caveats to be aware of. If you need more informaton on that, post another note.

Good luck!

I would stay 2 nights in one place and 3 nights in the other. The distance is too far for just a day trip. Pisa is a great choice to fly in and out of. Another idea is to spend a night in Lucca, if flying out of Pisa. Fairly close and easy to get to the airport.

Sienna is great. Got to climb the tower. You can see the city in one full day. I can imagine what it is like when the Paolito is going on.
