Cinque Terre accomodation help- Il Pirata/ Tonino Basso/ Alberto Basso

I need help deciding between these three lodging options! It is for me and my boyfriend and we are in our late 20's and looking for something nice but not too expensive.

1) ilpiratarooms@libero.it- 80 Euro per night for Ist and 2nd night includes breakfast. "Has a few big, basic, and quite rooms"- Rick Steves. Double room (one double bed) with private ensuite bathroom and breakfast at "Il Pirata Bar" included if you reserve in advance for 2 or more days for 80€ per night. Our rooms don't have seaview, they all look to the mountains and venyards; we will be just 5 minutes walk to the sea and the centre of the village. Also, is the best pastry/ restaurant that people loved

2) Tonino Basso- The price for a double room with bathroom/air conditioning is Euro 120 for 2 people. Could stay all 3 nights or one night.right next to Il piratar- Could stay here for 1 night. "Rents 4 super, clean, modern rooms. Each room has its own laptop with free Internet, tranquility and air conditiontiong but no views." -RIck Steves. The rooms are very nice and clean (very important) but there is not a sea view. The website: www.toninobasso.comThis guy rents 4 super clean modern rooms. Each room has its own laptop for free internet, only building with an elevator. You get tranquility and air conditioning but no views.

3) Alberto Basso- it costs 75 euros per night 2 person, room available with private bath, refrigerator and harbor view, cancellation policy one week before. Has pictures "this guy rents two clean, modern rooms, one with a harbor view over the noisy piazza and the other quiet and behind the main street" - Rick Steve's

We have stayed in ToninnoBasso's rooms and loved them. They are at the top of the town right beside Il Pirata restaurant.Very clean, contemporary decor, a computer, air-conditioning. I do not know when you are going but these rooms fill up generally 6-12 months ahead of time . If you want them , reserve now.

Hi Sydney,

I haven't stayed in the places you listed. However I thought I'd recommend where my husband and I stayed in May (we are also in our late 20's). We stayed in Riomaggiore at Edi's Rooms which is also recommended in Rick Steve's Book: www.wel.it/Vesignaedi

We paid 80EUR a night for our room (Case Mimi)and it had a great balcony with table & chairs overlooking the ocean and town. The view was spectacular. The room was clean and also inside had a dresser, table, and refrigerator. Check them out. If I go back this is one place I would definitely want to stay again.

Have a great trip!

We stayed at Tonino Basso for 3 nights in May 2009. Tonino, the owner is a nice guy. We told him we'd arrive at around 5 pm but didn't till 10 pm. Despite that, he waited for us at the Vernazza train station and showed us the way to his hotel. Tonino gives you his phone number when he confirms your room reservation. He will request that you call him when you arrive at the train station. The walk from train station to Tonino takes less than 5 minutes.

There are no sea views to his rooms. We rented a room with A/C and an attached bathroom for 120 Euros per night. Tonino prefers cash. There is an ATM in the adjacent building. The bathroom looked like it was newly renovated. The laptop provided in the room was useful. It comes with high speed internet connection.

Il Pirata is located next to Tonino's. We used it for breakfasts. The twin brothers made fantastic pastries. I'll definitely return to Tonino Basso if I'm in Cinque Terre again.

You usually can't go wrong with any of the recommendations in Rick Steves. We just booked a room at Il Pirata. They were very friendly and responsive to our reservation. If you book in advance they include breakfast at the restaurant, and I hear the pastries are to die for. They also didn't require a deposit, just a confirmation a week before you arrive.

Whichever you pick you should do it quickly. I noticed that the places are filling up now very fast for the summer. Several of the places listed are full, and others just don't respond. The first place I had picked filled up before I got my final deposit in.

Keep in mind you are going there for the town and surroundings, not the room.

Have you considered Giuliano Basso? Check him out on Trip Advisor. He is in the RS book and rated very high on trip advisor (was #1) There are also pictures on the site so you can see your view and rooms.
We stayed there last fall. It was wonderful! Big clean new rooms, beautiful terrace with view of the ocean, yet away from the town square so it is quiet. We loved Giuliano..he is quite the character and his American wife Michelle and daughter Sofia and great too. Check it out.
