Cinque Terre

I will be traveling to Cinque Terre for 2 nights in June. Because of the floods, I am not sure where I should stay. Does anyone know when they will be up and running? I was thinking of staying in Monterosso. I will be with my two nieces (18 & 16 yrs old). Any suggestions based on the floods?

Monterosso is a great choice. Great progress has been made in Monterosso and by June things should be fine. Vernazza sustained heavy damage and is continuing to make progress but status in June is unclear. Monterosso is a good choice for teens as well since it hsa the only real beach.
I would book accomodations asap as June fills up quickly

Patti, I'd most definitely agree with Toni. Monterosso would be a great choice! Keep in mind that only the "old town" section was affected by the floods (for the most part), and the recovery there has been remarkable so far. There are also good Hotels in the "new town" section. I've heard that some accommodations in Vernazza are starting to take bookings for May 1, but haven't confirmed that yet. It's really good to hear that you're starting to book now, as I'm sure Hotels will book up quickly. I'm really hoping I'll be able to find a vacancy when return to Monterosso this year. Buon Viaggio!

Patti, Have you looked into the town of Portovenere? It's just south of the CT and you can ferry to three of the five CT towns from there. (Depending on the weather.) It's a beautiful little seaside town, and you can also ride the ferry to the three islands offshore there. We stayed at the Paradiso hotel, which was nice, and a little expensive. The three islands are Isola Palmaria, Isola Tino, and Isola Tinetto. You can actually stay on Palmaria and tour Tino by boat. Palmaria has the "Grotto of the Doves". It's a hard, rocky hike. Worth it! Palmaria is the largest island and has nice beaches. It is accessible by ferry or boat taxi from Portovenere or the CT. Tino is now a military zone and is only open to visitors on September 13 for the feast day of Saint Venerio. Tino holds the remains of the 11th century abbey of San Venerio. Tinetto is little more than a rock and is also a military zone. It holds a 6th century monastery. At the time we were there, you could not go ashore, or get too close. We were really debating on posting this, as there are very few tourists in comparison to the CT, but were horrified to see, in last month's New York Times, Portovenere as the 4th hottest unknown spot to go see in 2012.

Thanks for your ideas. I have now confirmed a reservation at Manuel's Guesthouse in Monterosso.
Can't wait!

Patti, I've never stayed at Manuel's, but it looks like it's in the same general area as Hotel Villa Steno. You'll enjoy that view in the mornings!!! Happy travels!
