- three couples on a cruise stopping in Livorno - would like a brief one day glance at Cinque Terre at the end of October and wondering whether the ferry/towns would be overly congested at that time - and if a private boat would be a better way - with maybe stops in one or two of the towns.

My DD and 3 others visited several of the CT villages by private boat this summer, and had a wonderful time. BUT their ship was docked at La Spezia. Livorno is more than 2 hours away by train. Personally, I wouldn't do an excursion that far away from the ship unless it was a ship excursion, or you were overnighting in port.
