Cinque Terre

We will be in Cinque Terre next September for a whole day. What should be our schedule, where should we go? How should we move around, by train? Wolud be able to walk any portion of the Via del amore? If anyone can give us a whole day schedule, we will appreciate it.

Cinque Terre is not about schedules -- it's about relaxation. If you like to hike, then hike between one or several of the villages. FYI, the hikes are easiest at the South end, at the Via del'Amore, and get progressively more challenging, with perhaps the most halls ging between Vernazza and Monterosso, but all easily doable. The answer to your question as to what will be closed and what will be open may need to wait til you are there. Trains run between all five villages at regular intervals, and there is also a boat between, which can give you some lovely views inward from the sea. But you willwantto find your own scenic spot -- beach, castle terrace, restaurant terrace -- to enjoy a glass of wine and just relax. There are no must-see sights -- the villages and the sea are the sights.

If you can get a reservation.....try Il Pirata delle Cinque Terre-Vernazza restaurant for dinner. We had breakfast there 3 times....couldn't get reservations for dinner and they served the BEST pastries ever.....we loved the cute, cozy atmosphere....has indoor and outdoor seating. If it's the same owners that run it....they were very friendly.....just a fantastic experience overall. It is not an expensive restaurant....and it's up the hill from the beach ....but totally walkable! Have fun in the Cinque Terre....we spent 3 days there in 2010 and absolutely loved it! Vernazza was our favourite place there!

Are you referring to September 2016? If you're only going to be there for a day trip, you won't have a lot of time to see much, but a short stop at each of the five towns is certainly possible.

Travel between the towns is very easy via the frequent local trains, and in good weather you can also travel by boats which stop at all the towns except Corniglia.

Whether you'll be able to walk the Via dell' Amore will depend on when your visit will be taking place, hence my first question. At the present time, a short section is open from the Manarola end, but the remainder will remain closed until next April according to current information.

In order to provide a suggested "whole day schedule", it would help to have some idea where you'll be travelling from, and how long you'll have to spend in the Cinque Terre.
