we are planing to travel to cique terre fron Rome next week . Has anyone traveled by car. Any suggestions on a hotel. Thx a bunch
Norman, having a car in the Cinque Terre is not something I'd want to do. You might want to park it in La Spezia and take the local train. It's difficult to suggest a Hotel without knowing which of the five villages you'd like to stay in?
With a car in CT, park in Monterosso and take the train to Vernazza. In Vernazza, you will have no shortage of places to stay, just get off the train and walk down the only road in the the town and you'll see signs everywhere saying "Rooms for rent". This time of year you will not have any problem finding a room, trust me.
We drove to Vernazza in 2006 coming in from France and once you get off the autostrada and past Monterosso the road gets kind of hairy[INVALID]very, very narrow with lots of hairpins. I was hugging the door as my husband drove. Of course our boys thought it was exciting! Have trained in 2x also and that is definitely the way to go.
Norman - you have this posted 4 times - how be you delete the others?
Driving in CT wasn't that bad. Just don't plan on hauling ass when you get to the area.
Most experienced travelers to the CT choose not to have a rental car for that portion of their trip, as a car is not an advantage there (trains connect the 5 towns) and can be a big headache to park overnight.
