Cinque Terra village

Planning on taking the train from Lucca to Cinque Terra for a day. What is the easiest village for walking/and or getting to the "center". I have mobility issue with one knee which makes climbing stairs difficult (can be done, but slow). Would love to see and experience the area.

The train station in Vernazza has an elevator from the platform, in addition to steps, that will take you to the street level. There is a slight decline getting into the town center which on the way back to the train station would become an incline but it is not too steep.

Frances,

The easiest town for walking is Monterosso as it's relatively flat in both the "new town" and "old town" (although there's a slight uphill section along Via Roma in the old town). There are stairs to deal with in getting from the train platform down to the main street. I don't remember if there's an elevator as I've never looked. If the stairs are a problem, walk to the end of the platform towards the old town (south). As I recall there's a small access road that goes down to the street.

Hi Frances! I just visited the Cinque Terre last month. We stayed in Manarola but strolled around all five villages.

Flattest overall: Monterosso
Relatively flat: Corniglia (but lots of stairs or a bus to get up to the city from the train station)
Hilly: Vernazza and Riomaggiore (not sure about stairs?)
Very hilly: Manarola (we stayed in a B&B at the very top of the city, so maybe it seemed so hilly to me because of our walk to our room! I also don't remember stairs.)
