Cinque Terra travel

will a travel permit be required for travel into that area in Oct-Sept of this year?
Do you believe this area is getting to crowded?
What are alternative places with similar experiences in Italy?

Hi drseitz.

"will a travel permit be required for travel into that area in Oct-Sept of this year?"
No.

"Do you believe this area is getting to crowded?"
Yes, but with a five minute walk you can get away from the crowds if desired.

Enjoy your trip!

Talk now is just limiting the people coming ashore from cruise ships... this won't take affect this year in any case. (from internet searches)

we were in the CT in mid October last year and the crowds were no big deal. There were lots of people in the villages but as the day moved along and as we hit trails for hiking the crowds were not a hassle. We stayed up at Moneglia and rode the train back and forth for a week and the trains were not overly crowded and were easy to use. We also rode the ferry down the coast and we never really put off visiting an area due to crowds.

No, a travel permit will not be required. That was an unfortunate rumour that was blown out of proportion by irresponsible media sources.

Some of the five towns can be very crowded in the day time due to the cruise ship groups, but the evenings are quite pleasant. As a previous reply mentioned, there are parts of the towns where you can go to escape the crowds. Corniglia tends to be the least crowded, and Vernazza tends to be the most crowded.
