Driving from Vernazza to Venice. I know it is a bit of a long haul - is Verona lovely enough to stay the night and break up the trip? Somewhere else?
Susan, YES, Verona is definitely worth a stop for at least one night! It's a beautiful city, and while there you can visit the fictional Romeo & Juliette garden and balcony. You could tour Piazza Bra and Piazza Erbe and of course the Roman Amphitheatre. Hopefully your visit won't be during opera season, as the city will be packed and room rates will be higher. Happy travels!
Hi Susan, We are also doing the same leg (Venice to CT) later this summer. Verona is seemingly close to Venice, so I don't this it would "break it up" per say, but it sounds like a great place to see. We are going to stop for lunch in Parma on our way- it's about halfway, and thought it might be a great way to see a smaller place.

Verona is great. Some pictures here from our trip this past May: Verona May 2011
We drove from Venice to Vernazza, spent a few hours in Verona along the way, and still made it to Vernazza in plenty of time for supper. Verona is definitely worth a stop, or an overnight if you prefer.
We recently visited Verona, and I would say it's definitely worth a stop. We arrived in the afternoon, stayed overnight, and left early afternoon the next day. Verona is also very easy to negotiate by foot. Buon Viaggio!
