We are staying in the Cinque Terra (Manarola) for three nights during our trip this August 2007. We want to take a boat trip up to the Italian Riviera (Portofino and Santa Margarita). Does anyone know of a boat/ferry service from Cinque Terra up to Riviera? I can only find service coming down from the Riviera. Anyone????

There are boats that go from the Cinque Terre to Santa Margarita, but when we were there last September they took at least a few hours. I don't remember seeing the schedules before we left, but we did see them there. We took the train to Santa Margarita and then the boat to Portofino was less than 30 minutes. That gave us the extra time to walk around Portofino and Santa Margarita.

One last item... Check the train schedules for the best trains. Most of the direct trains from Manarola to Santa Margherita Ligure take about an hour, but the connections take about 2 hours.
