Cinque Terra to Nice

Staying in Monterosso specifically, looking to get to Nice on July 4th. Am having a heck of a time searching various train sites. Any recommendations out there for getting to Nice.

Am finding:
Monterosso to Ventimiglia with a bus txfr in there somewhere, then Ventimiglia to Nice. 6hrs, seems I will have to book on multiple sites to get this route as its serviced by diff carriers that some sites don't sell for.

Monterosso to Genoa early then bus to Nice. 6 hrs.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I take it the Thello isn't running that week? Due to a strike or something? That's how I did it, but I see checking the schedules that there are no Thello trains scheduled that week but there are the week after...

Looks like the strikes are affecting this route. The options that come up are 14-16 hours with multiple train changes. Ugh!

Is a car rental possible? One way rentals are expensive but might be worthwhile. Or you can fly Genoa to Nice (thru Rome) for $239 (per Skyscanner).

If you do go through Ventimiglia, know that the train from Ventimiglia to Nice is a local train, and it runs every half hour until about 11 PM (under non-strike conditions). No advance ticket needed - just buy before travel and hop on. It's cheap too - under €10.

Thanks all, found one site that says sales are blocked on strike day, today is one of their selected strike days, hoping tomorrow I can have better luck online, will probably just wait till we are there to purchase but want to know my travel options.

The trains that normally don't require a connection at Ventimiglia are operated by Thello, which says that those departures are temporarily closed for sale for travel on July 3, 4, and 5. I would guess that the issue is construction, rather than a strike, since the alternative of "regular" Italian regional include a bus for the portion of the trip between Taggia and Ventimiglia. But then you still have minimal train service on the French side, too.

As I think you saw, SNCF and Eurolines are both selling a direct Eurolines bus that would be the best bet for advance booking. The bus stop at Piazza della Vittoria is about three blocks from Genoa/Genova Brignole train station.

12:15 Genoa - Piazza della Vittoria

15:45 Nice - Aéroport Côte d'Azur - Terminal 2

There are train connections about hourly from Monterosso to Genoa, most with one connection. Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the Deutsche Bahn train schedule link and tips for using it, or those would also be on www.trenitalia.com.
