We are a family of 4 with 2 teens spending 3 nights and 4 days in Cinque Terra, June 30 - July 3, 2013. Finding accommodations for a family of 4 this late is challenging. I'm currently booked at Edi's Apartment in Riomaggiore. However, seems like Monterossa might be a better location for a family with 2 teenage daughters who will like the beach. Which village would be a better home base to explore CT and or which accommodations sounds better? www.hotelamici.it $250/night including full breakfast, no kitchen
appartamenticinqueterre.net Apartment La Marina for $200/night with kitchen.
Kleen, I've never stayed at any of the places you mentioned, so can't offer any personal observations. Monterosso may be a better location given your circumstances, but the most important consideration at this point is likely whether you'll be able to get a booking there. Monterosso also has a greater number of restaurants, shops, etc. Riomaggiore is also a good choice, although it doesn't have the same type of sandy beaches as Monterosso. There's a small bay around the corner from the harbour, and I saw people swimming there when I was in that area in September. It's a nice smaller town and Bar Centrale is usually quite "lively" in the evenings. As I recall, there's a nice Gelateria next door to the Bar, and some nice restaurants on the main street. Happy travels!
Kleen, You sent me a personal message 3 1/2 weeks ago asking about our family's recent trip to Italy. I was excited to reply with great wisdom :-) But for reasons that I cannot explain, the message system here would not let me reply with any message, no matter how brief. I tried again just a minute ago and the problem still exists with your message (but nobody else's). If you still have questions and are willing to share your email address, send that to me in a PM and I'll respond via regular email. Happy Travels...
