We will be staying a few days in Cinque Terra and need recommendations on where to stay. We would love a nice room with a view where we can make a reservation. Any help appreciated as we have not visited Italy before.
I really liked Hotel La Coloninna in Monterosso. It is on the "old side" though and I think I might have liked to stay on the new side more- I'm really not sure. But I felt like the hotel was a good value, even though it had its quirks. For instance, they turned off the elevator for certain hours and the lights were almost always out in the hallways. And they would like the front door at midnight and not reopen it until sometime after 7 am I think (so if you are arriving late or leaving really early, it might mean lots of stairs!).
However, it had a really nice little rooftop and was down a very quiet street- we even had an almost-view of the water from the window, but definitely from the roof. Worth checking out! I'm sure there are nicer views right on the water, but this was pretty reasonably priced and the room was nice.
I can't report on the room as we haven't stayed there yet, but we have verbal reservations at this place: Aria di Mare. http://www.ariadimare.info/ You can check them out on Trip Advisor as well. It is fairly new and has water views. They don't take money for a reservation and I am trusting that the room will be there for us in June. Like most places in Italy, they want cash only.
Stayed 4 nights in July 2009 in Francamaria's room 2. Had wonderful harbor views and hardly any steps. It is in the R.S. Italy bk.
Re. my above posting--Francamaria's is in Vernazza.
I'm not sure what your budget is, but we stayed at La Mala in Vernazza and enjoyed our view immensely.
Mary Ann,
You might have a look at www.torrettas.com which is in Manarola. It's a bit "high end" but does offer views.
Happy travels!
We're currently still in Italy and just left CT a week ago. We staying in Manarola with www.acasa5terre.it at Francesca 1. It was absolutely glorious. We paid 130 euros a night for four people. They have a number of apartments. Ours was up the hill with a breathtaking sea view. I would go back there in a heartbeat. We visited all the towns and Manarola was by far our favorite - quiet, but with great restaurants and beautiful. I don't know why so many favor Vernazza; we didn't. Just be cautious with wording about a "sea view" and make sure it's not out of the corner of your bathroom. We had a balcony with a view. Have a great time!
