I'd like to take my time through Cinque Terra. Hike through a couple of towns then stay the nght. However, I will be carrying light luggage. Does anyone have a recommendation for where to stay and how to work the itinerary?
Hi Kelli. Rick's Italy book will give you a good description of the towns. Everybody has different opinions on the towns; they're all good in their own way. They are fairly close together, and connected by rail, so unless you are able to carry all your belongings, just train back from wherever you end your hike to where you are staying. Note that the most popular coastal trails are currently closed for repair, but most of the inland trails are open. Enjoy your trip!
Kelli, Some further information would be helpful. For example: - What time frame are you working with? - Are you only planning to stay one night? - What do you want to see/do in that area, besides hiking? - What type of accommodations would you prefer? - When will this trip be taking place? - Where are you going after the Cinque Terre? The "usual" method is to drop luggage at your hotel or B&B, and then hike the trails and explore. Everyone here has a "favourite" of the five towns, and in my case that's Monterosso. Each of the towns has their own "personality", so you might want to check the Italy Guidebook to see which one most appeals to you. Good luck with your planning!
