Cinque Terra hiking trails

Bob, you mentioned the trails are now closed for repair. Do you have any idea when they will be open? I am going in the middle of April and hoping the trails open by then. They have been closed a long time.

cheryl, According to the "official" Cinque Terre park website, all of the Sentiero Azzurro (No. 2) trails are still closed. Here's the weblink: http://www.parconazionale5terre.it/sentieri_parco.asp?id_lingue=1 (I don't know how often this is up-dated, but hopefully it's reasonably accurate). I believe at least some of the trails will be re-opened when tourist season starts at the beginning of April, but haven't seen anything definite on that yet. The Via dell'Amore is the easiest of all, as it's mostly flat and paved, however ironically that's where a major rock slide occurred last September, seriously injuring four Australian tourists. I'm sure the authorities will be absolutely sure it's safe before they re-open it. Your best bet is to check again shortly before your trip, and hopefully at least some of them will be open. Happy travels!

We were in cut a few days ago and can confirm that all trails are officially closed. However, it is possible to hike some of them if you hop gates at your own risk. We saw one guy hop the fence to scout the trail ahead in m.rosso; he came back shortly after to inform his friends of what lay ahead but they all turned back. The trail from vernazza to corniglia was also closed off but the netted fence was ripped down so we went through. We saw handful of people hiking through on the way.
I can't speak for corniglia to manarola but from manarola to riomaggiore, via dell'amore is definitely blocked off. Go at your own risk!
