Cinque Terra

we will be in Florence for amonth from Jan 10 through Feb 10 and we are interested in visiting the Cinque Terra. Is this a good time to go? Will the boat between villages be in operation? any suggestions? Thanks

The Cinque Terre is not a great winter destination. Many places close down entirely from November to mid-March. The trails will be closed if it is very wet as they may be treacherous, and I am reasonably certain the boats do not run in winter.
Venice would have more to offer, or Rome, both fairly quick, and very direct train trips from Florence.

Lou, As Laurel mentioned, that's not a really good time to visit the Cinque Terre, for the reasons she mentioned. Many of the tourist businesses close during the winter, and use the time to complete repairs or renovations to get ready for the start of the new tourist season (which usually starts on April 1st). In addition, the weather could be somewhat "inclement", so it likely wouldn't leave you with a favourable impression of the area. I doubt very much if the boats will be operating then, especially considering that they're "weather dependant". If the seas are rough (which certainly could be the case in winter), they don't operate at all. Happy travels!
