I'm on a cruise ship that docks in Livorno for 12 hours in October. Have done Florence and Pisa, and would love to do Cinque Terra that day. Do not want to take the ship's tour. Any suggestions on doing it on my own successfully, or, suggestions for guides for the day that can get me (and 3 others) there and back without worrying about missing our ship?

Yes it is very possible - I was in CT and some friends came off a cruise ship to meet us in CT for the day. They had a van with a driver pick them at the cruise ship take them to Pisa to see the tower and then met us in CT. We were able to take the boat and trains to get them to three of the 5 towns without a problem. They got back to the cruise ship in plenty of time. My friend called American Express travel services to get the van and driver. So I know the services are there.
