Does the Cinque Terre card still cover the local train and buses? I keep getting mixed messages from the web. Thanks.
Michael
Last time I was there (October 2006) it covered both- just remember to validate both ends of the pass.
I'm looking at ours from last June and it did indeed include unlimited 2nd class train rides from La Spezia to Levanto which includes the 5 towns. It also included rides on the minibuses in the towns and it covered the costs to hike the famous trails.
Our card was called the Cinque Terre card. I believe that there may have been a name change and the card is now called the 5Terre card. You can see this newer card on www.cinqueterreonline.com/5terrecard.htm. It should do the same thing as the previous Cinque Terre card. You can get these cards in 1-day, 2-day, 3-day and 7-day flavors at many places from La Spezia to Levanto including the TI (Tourist Information) offices.
According to this site's updates, the CT card no longer covers trains and buses.
The previous website has not been updated since 2004. A more current website (still showing 2007 info) is
http://www.parconazionale5terre.it/5terrecardsnuovo_2.asp?id_lingue=2
It shows the Cinque Terre Card that does not cover the trains. When I was there in 2007 there was another card, the Cinque Terre Treno Card which did cover the trains.
Trish, your right. I'm looking at mine again and it does indeed say Cinque Terre Treno. It has the Trenitalia logo near the bottom and instructions on the backside say to validate it before use. Mine is validated for train use.
Again, mine worked fine last summer on the trains, trails and mini-buses. We need somebody with more current experience.
