Cinq Terre and Tuscany

Hi
Advice for trip. Visiting with friends Mondovi for a few days, then have 6 days to tour. My idea.
Train from Mondovi to Cing Terre. Spend 2 nights.
Private car (maybe) from CT, have them take us for quick visits to San Gimignano and maybe Volterra, drop off Siena.
Spend night Siena, see some sights next day, then rent car.
Drive to Montalcino. Stay 2 nights, tour around there.
Drive to Rome, spend night near airport, drop car off.
Fly away.

Major flaws in this? Any enhancements?
Thanks all you smart people.

Where on the Cinque Terre did you plan on staying? What time of year? Instead of a very expensive private driver, why not train to La Spezia, or even Pisa and pick up a rental car there. Instead of a one nighter in Siena, you could drive to Montalcino, and visit Siena as a day trip the next day.

I would think you would want to drop the car off before Rome, to avoid that city's traffic. You could drop in Chiusi and train into Rome. Or drive to FCO and drop the car there. Stay at an airport hotel or in Fiumicino if you don't want to be in Rome.

Thank you CJean.
Going later April. Stay either Vernazza or Monterosso.
Plans changing. Spending 3 or 4 days Montalcino then driving towards Cing Terre.
Options:
Spend a night in Pisa, turn in rental car there, train to Cing Terre.
or
park for a few nights in La Spezia or something and return to car after staying in Cing Terre.

I suggest you skip CT. It will be crowded by cruise ship day trippers. It's inconvenient and other than the beauty shots, there's not a lot to do. You don't have much time and it could be better spent in Tuscany.
