when u go 2 cinca tera do not swim there !!! yuck
Where exactly did you go in the Cinque Terre,, it is as you may know actually 5 villages, so more helpful if you told us where exactly you were.
It would also be alot more helpful if you could elaborate on "yuck".
I am going swimming when I am there....yuck or no yuck.
:))
"yuck" definitely needs to be defined for the Cinque Terre (correct spelling) swimming options. When I was there recently, the water was crystal clear aqua and I sure wanted to dive in!
Does anyone listen to people who use "u" instead of "you" (shudder) and so terribly butcher the name of the area being criticized?
I swam there and enjoy it very much, not yucky at all!
It was beautiful when I was there but cold. Don't know where "yuck" comes from!

I could use some help from somone who has visited The Cinque Terra. We are planning a trip to Italy and want to stay in one of the towns of the Cinque Terra.
Which town?
How Long?
Best time of year?
We have been to Monterossa, but only for a few hours and didn't get to hike the 5 towns.
Last time we stayed at Santa Margherita.
Thanks,
Mike C.
We just returned from 5 days there. We stayed in Monterossa Al Mare because we wanted the beach and the larger choice of restaurants. We loved the two parts of town and I highly recommend it and the Belvedere restaurant. I did note that they had boats skimming refuse off the water in the a.m. but I swam in the water and found it lovely and certainly cleaner than the Atlantic off New Jersey, the usual beaching I do. The hikes are superb. I did them over two days. You will love it there!
Whin I wuz n chica terror yuk preindominated.
Perhaps the two folks who are not using English longhand to communicate and do not spell the place so many of us are familiar with as we know it is spelled, are indeed posting about another place entirely?
Chas: Read the definition of satire and report back.
How come Sarah did not come back and qualify yuck? I am dying to know!!!
seriously? I swam in Vernazza, Monterosso and Manorola just this week. The waters of the Cinque Terre are cool and clear. The snorkling was fantastic. An abundance of sea life indicates a healthy habitat. My advice, ignore anyone who can not spell the location they are commenting on. The Cinque Terre was heaven on Earth for us. You may want to bring water shoes because the beaches on Vernazza and Monterosso are made of small pebbles that hurt bare feet and anywhere else you swim you will need to climb on rocks. If you are brave find a safe place to dive off the cliffs, as a local. We found a beautiful waterfall just outside of Vernazza in a cove. Ask Angelo to take you there. Angelo's boat tours was the best day of our 2 weeks in Italy. As always Rick points the wise traveler in the right direction. Thanks again Rick Steves!
Sarah was Paris Hilton in a lucid moment. The moment has passed forever.
May be a time of year thing. We were there in October. The water was clear in Vernazza but really cold.
In Monterosso, we waded to our ankles at the beach, the water seemed plenty clean but really too cold for swimming. There seemed to be seeweed not far from the beach - so maybe that's the yucky part.
I swam in the Mediterranean! More than I can say for any of my family or friends. It was not yuck, it was glorious!
We are counting the days until we will be swimming in Vernazza in 4 weeks from now. Can't wait! :) :)
3rd time going, no yucky swimming yet!
