I am confused about the cicchetti tours in Venice, suggested around lunchtime with a tour guide. I know several places do this (I row Venice, private guides, etc) but was wondering why you couldn't just go to bars that serve tapas and do this yourself (or with a few friends). Are these bars on the outer lagoon or in a certain spot? Thank you for your help and comments.
Rick has a list of recommended cicchetti bars in his books. They are mostly within easy walking distance of the Rialto market. Like any other activity, the experience is different with a guide/group and on your own/with friends.
They won't be called tapas, that's Spanish.
I've never used a guide for those wonderful mini delicacies. Start with Rick's list and just explore. Ask your hotel.
Each of us will have different favourites. Some people like Arco, some don't. Some like the Ca' d'Oro, some find it stuffy.
I happen to prefer the little place in Dorsoduro across from the Squero.
I don't drink so go only for the food. If you do drink wine you can decide your own favourites for the atmosphere, the food and the wine.
Its actually pretty hard to go very far wrong. Experiment. Find your own path - always a good idea in Venice.
Thank you all!
