Are the bars listed in the Rick Steves' book still open for cicchetti? Bar All'Arco, Cantino do Mori, Osteria ai Storti, Cantina Do Spade. Are there new ones to try?
In 2014, our favorite place for cicchetti was Osteria Ciurma! At the time it was not in Rick's book. By far, the best cicchetti we ate!
It's easy enough to google (or google maps) these restaurants/bars. That will give you an indication of whether or not they are open. You might be surprised just how much information you can glean from the internet these days ;)
You might also want to google Cicchetti and the city(s) you are visiting to see what comes up. I know there are several blogs written by expats that have extensive commentary on the cicchetti scene.
Rick posts updates to his Italy guidebooks https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/italy/guidebook-updates, You might take a look to see if he has updated restaurant information.
Good luck.
Put your blue book away and just get lost on the back streets. There are great options beyond what guru Rick advises. You may find yourself in a place where you're the only American. :)
My favorite chichetti is Osteria al Portego. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187870-d1034685-Reviews-Osteria_al_Portego-Venice_Veneto.html Their Tiramisu is amazing! We prefer chichetti to regular restaurants in Venice.
