Ciampino airport is much closer to the city center than Fiumincio is. But there is no rail connection from the airport to statione termini. The cab drivers are aware of your being at their mercy and make you pay for that big time. I hear there was now a shuttle bus from Ciampino to the center. Check with the airport's website (follow ling on Ryanair website).

So I haven’t actually DONE it yet... but I am flying out of Rome Ciampino Airport this September on a Ryan Air Flight, and intend to take the Terravision airport coach to Rome Ciampino Airport Coach. It leaves from the Rome Termini Station and takes approx. 40 minutes. You are to be at the stop at least 3 hours prior to your departure time. It’s fairly cheap, I think around 6 or 8 Euro each way. Again, I haven’t used this before – but last year in Venice I did use a similar service that corresponded with the Ryan Air flight times and it was super easy and cheap and convenient, you might want to google it and have a look, good luck!

We flew in to Ciampino and took the Terravision shuttle to Termini station. It was about 8 euros and was very quick. They spoke English and the buses were very comfortable. It did take about 40 min.

Ciampino is the smaller airport used mostly by budget airlines. Use the Terravision Shuttle for an easy connection to/from the airport/Termini Station. www.terravision.it
