RS made a note in his Rome tour guide that visiting the Church when the great organ is played on Saturday at 6pm is a unique experience. Has anyone gone to the Church at that time? On one of our pre-days, I thought we'd head over to East Rome and after seeing the Baths of Diocletian we'd head over to the Church. I thought my husband might enjoy listening to the pipe organ. Appreciate any feedback.
YES! Do it! You're getting several experiences during that visit: music, music 'in situ', religious, emotional and a chance to sit.
Pretty sure Rick mentioned that the church was constructed IN part of the baths? Don't miss the 18th-century Clementine Gnomon (sundial) in the floor of the south transept? It's the most ornate of any I've yet seen. Look for the little hole up on the southern wall that lets in the narrow beam of daylight that tracks the Meridian line.
