Christmas Week in Venice

Hello, My daughter and I will spending several days leading up to Christmas in Venice this year (flying back home on the 26th) in an apartment rental. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for the 24 and 25th? I'm a little worried about what may be open during those days. Would it be best for me to plan on cooking in the apartment on Christmas Eve/Day? I assume that mostly we'll take those two days for aimless rambling and just enjoying "getting lost" in Venice, but if there's a chance that there are indeed some scheduled events/sites to see I'd like to take advantage of them. I would like to attend Christmas Eve Mass at San Marco, but other than that not sure of what might be going on. Also, I know the 26th is considered a Holiday as well, so off hand does anyone know how the transportation to the airport might be effected? We're staying near Fondamente Nuove so I assume that's where we jump off to the airport. Thank You,
Jodi

Hi Jodi, I can't speak for Venice around Christmas but I have worked in the travel/hotel industry for 20 years and I always encourage people to not eat out on the key family holidays (Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving). For years I have had to see the look on peoples faces when I tell them they have to work on the holiday and can't spend the time with their family or partaking in their special traditions. I know we choose to work in this industry but that doesn't make it easier. I would encourage you to plan to cook something in the apartment on the 25th and follow it up with a walk around the city. I don't know for sure but my guess is that the 25th will be very quiet and you will have many of the streets and canals to yourself. Enjoy your trip, it sounds wonderful.
