Christmas Trip Dec 27 to after NYE Jan 4 in Italy

Trying to plan a trip for Dec 27-Jan 4 2013 or so. Also avoiding the big cities, does anyone have any ideas of smaller towns that have celebrations or still celebrate the week between Chrisrmas and NYE- Thanks

Not sure what you mean about when you say "celebrate after Christmas week and NYE." There are a lot of people off work for the week following Christmas, just like in the US. Dec 26 is a holiday, too. In the bigger cities, here will be planty of places open for tourists, but the smaller towns may be more buttoned up. That said, Sorrento was booming for Christmas week. We were there until Dec 23 last year, and the hotel said they were fully booked for Dec 24- NYE as so many Italians go on holiday. If you can grab a room there, Sorrento is nice: small, scenic, seaside, with gorgeous lights. In fact, every town we were in last December had amazing lights for the season.

Laurel-I was planning on coming to Italy on the 27th leaving the US on the night of the 26th to avoid the holiday on the 26th and stay till after the New Year, but I should be there till the 6th when they celebrate the Ephinay, sorry about the spelling, but wasn't sure where to go-I love Rome and have been there so many times but not after the holiday and wanted to avoid the rush at NYEperhaps Sorrento might be a good choice and then we can go into Naples and the Almalfi Coast-I just wanted a smaller town to relax, sightsee and enjoy NYE.....thanks for your help
